Company History

  • 1999

    A one-year-old girl suffered severe burns during a family BBQ, the contents of a deep fat fryer were spilt over the child, covering her with boiling hot fat.

    In the burns unit, it soon became clear that the girl had allergic reactions to existing treatment products at the time.

    Philippe Sollie, a pharmacist, contacted the head of the burns department and together they started developing a product to help.

    This is how Flamigel® was originally developed. In 1999, Flamigel® obtained a CE mark.

  • 2000

    Philippe Sollie founded Flen Health, at that time Flen Pharma. The same year Flamigel® was launched in Belgium, The Netherlands and Greece. Also outside Europe, the product became a core element in the wound and skin therapy markets. Saudi Arabia and China were the first export countries.

  • 2003

    The company started to extend their product portfolio with Flamirins®, a wound cleanser.

  • 2005

    The company´s portfolio continued to grow with Flaminal®, another innovative wound healing treatment. Flaminal® Hydro, followed by Flaminal® Forte which led to another shift in the medical device market in Belgium, the UK and beyond.

  • 2009

    Flen Health introduced Extracalm® to the market as well as its first headquarters in Belgium.

  • 2011

    A second headquarters in Luxembourg was opened. Flen Health has continued to grow and develop internationally.

  • 2012

    Flen Health opened affiliates in The Netherlands, Germany and in the UK.

  • 2016

    The company held a workforce of 80 staff and brought 145,000kg of wound and skin healing ointment products into the market.

  • 2018

    Flen Health celebrated the 20th birthday of Flamigel® and launched Flamigel® RT, a product developed to prevent skin breakdown during radiotherapy treatment.

  • 2019

    Foundation of US affiliate. At this point, more than 100 motivated employees were working in six affiliates across the globe. The company’s product portfolio is distributed in over 25 countries worldwide.

  • 2020

    Celebration of 20 years Flen Health! 20 years of successfully identifying unmet needs by utilising our expertise and passion to develop safe, effective and easy-to-use skin and wound healing products.
